Day one... Some 6 weeks later

Like most things you all have come accustomed to, a late post from me on how things are going is clearly the norm.  The idea is to set aside time once a week to keep you all updated after this mass update.  Of course we will see how this shakes out... but with my heart strings tugged, it may keep me updating you all more.

About this here blog:  I'm an observational sort and with a new life to build, I thought it would be interesting to document some of this mess, and have some fun along the way.  Some posts will be humor based, with a tinge of sarcasm, others will be heart felt, while others will be simply updating and generally useless.

As for this first post, I will bring you up to date as we sit right now:  Jillian may chime in but I will summarize everything that I can and not bore you.

We obviously have made the move and have settled in our lil one bedroom spot.  It's not home, but it's well home for now.  The dogs seemingly want to shred each other on a nightly basis, so I have spent a significant amount of time acting like a non-reformed NFL QB that should remain nameless for my Animal loving and/or newly acquired Falcon Fan Friends. They are adjusting thanks to some trips to the bark park.

The good news is that I have found work.  I'm working as a Sr. VoIP Engineer with the DODEA, or the education division of the Department of Defense.  At this point it appears I will be doing a little of everything which fits in my personality.  So far so good, and I love the people I'm working with, which is a huge help.  The work is going to be challenging, and I look forward to stepping up and helping as soon as I can.

Jillian is loving her work, but it has her on the road a significant amount of the time right now, which has made it difficult to get any sort of routine going.  Luckily, she flies back in on Fridays and generally leaves on Monday giving us the weekends.

The huge bonus here is the weather.  The days are usually in the high 70's low 80's and it cools nicely at night.  We get rain about once a week and have survived the fit of severe weather that has passed through.

Music has been, well, not really been.  I've jammed some open jams, even had a small gig, but have nothing coming my way at this time.  Harmonica is HUGE down here, but everyone sounds, and expects the same things.  I'm learning though that I am nothing but the same, and considering calling what I do something other than harmonica just to save the embarrassment of association.  I dearly miss rocking out every other night of the week or so, but food on the table has to come first.  My hopes are that I can cross paths with the southern version of the Madison scene here in short order.

I've gotten into an ultimate game here and can hang with most people I've crossed paths with.  Summer league will be starting up, and I hope that I can meet some people and drag onto a team.  They have odd rules on cleats down here, as the parks, well some, outlaw soccer cleats.  Any recommendations on turf cleats?

I've been working out daily, at least until my shoes gave out over this past week.  New ones are on the way and I'll be back to racking up the miles.

Other developments, in short:

I'm a hit at Applebee's karaoke.. yes.. that Applebee's, they have 3 dollar Long Islands and an amazing group of super friendly people that get a kick out of some idiot rapping and playing the harp.

I met an amazingly kind soul who has helped me get back into Disc Golf, meet some incredible people, and become a great friend.  He's just as ADD as I am, and we hold similar mindsets on helping others.  Pay it forward... I certainly will.

Taco Mac.. a chain with UNREAL beers... must do in the south.

I have never heard a radio station advertise that "Jesus is up in me" on the radio.  Hip-Hop Gospel Station?  Yep.

So... that is somewhat where we stand.  House hunting has begun in earnest, and the hope is that we can find something in the next month or so...  Just so we have a place we can call home and something that we can find consistency in.

I think that catches things up.  I know I'll forget to blog, and lag behind... but there's always hope that I don't!!

Til next time... we miss you all.

Mike (and Jillian by Proxy)
